Tamara Grcic
Tamara Grcic was born 1964 in Munich and lives and works in Frankfurt. She studied art history at the University of Vienna 1983–1986, cultural anthropology at the University of Frankfurt 1986–1988, and art at the Städelschule (Academy of Fine Arts) in Frankfurt 1988–1993. She has had many solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad, including at the Manifesta (1996), Kunsthalle Fridericianum in Kassel (2000), and the Venice Biennale (2009).
Dirck Möllmann
Dirck Möllmann was born 1963 in Wetzlar, Germany. He has been a curator at the Institute for Art in Public Spaces, Universalmuseum Joanneum since June 2012. After completing his studies in art history, he worked as a freelance curator at the Hamburg Kunsthalle from 1996 to 2009. He co-founded the platform for media art VIDEO Club 99 at the Hamburg Kunsthalle (1999–2009) and Stile der Stadt, Plattform für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum (Styles of the City, Platform for Public Art) in Hamburg (2006–2012). He often collaborates with the Galerie für Landschaftskunst (Gallery for Landscape Art) in Hamburg.
Karl Prüller
Karl Prüller was born 1961 in Reinsberg, Austria, where he lives and works. From 1992 to 1999, he renovated and remodeled the castle ruins in Reinsberg, where he then co-organized a series of theater plays called Monodrama Reinsberg from 1998 to 2008. From 2002 to 2010, large opera performances were held on the castle grounds. In 1994, he founded the culture and art initiative ferro Arte Reinsberg, which held solo exhibitions, artists’ symposia, and workshops focusing on iron as a local theme. In 1999, 2001, 2004, he co-organized several temporary public art projects in Reinsberg.
Bärbl Zechner
Bärbl Zechner lives and works in Vienna. In 1994, she earned a postgraduate qualification as a communications curator for museums and exhibitions from the Danube University in Krems. She has organized art and cultural education programs for several institutions, including the Generali Foundation Vienna (1998-2002) and the Museum moderner Kunst in Vienna (1990-2003). She has also planned and organized several interdisciplinary projects including Denkraum Donaustadt (2004-2009). In 2005, she began hosting country outings and other thematic art education programs for Public Art Lower Austria.

Was wir davon haben (What We Get Out Of It)
Concept and chair: Bärbl Zechner
While engaging with art in a museum context is natural and intentional, our interaction with art in public spaces has a more accidental character. People are quick to form opinions and to vehemently defend them in heated discussions, thus creating a public forum. However, it is also necessary to reflect on the questions posed by the artists, take historical references into account, and analyze how space is used and appropriated in different ways.

Thanks to an already existing interest on the part of the visitors, and to the educational programs on site, what is guaranteed within an institutional context such as a museum often goes unnoticed in the public realm. After the completed work is officially unveiled and contextualized, it is then left in the hands of a public who was neither involved nor prepared for the new situation and who possibly must live with it every day. In these circumstances, the artists’ complex messages often go unnoticed.
Bärbl Zechner invites the audience and experts to talk about artistic approaches, curatorial decisions, choice of locations – (each of which has its own political conditions) – as well as forms of cooperation that take the specific situation of art education within a shared public space into consideration.
