Nil Yalter, geboren 1938 in Kairo und aufgewachsen in Istanbul, lebt seit 1965 in Paris. In ihrer Arbeit verbinden sich soziale Recherche, politische, feministische und formal-ästhetische Fragen zu einer markanten künstlerischen Sprache. Ihre künstlerischen Medien umfassen Video, Zeichnung, Malerei, Fotografie, Performance, Multimedia-Installationen sowie Arbeiten im öffentlichen Raum. Arbeiten wurden u.a. in der Galerie Hubert Winter Wien; FRAC LORRAINE. Metz; mumok, Wien; Centre Pompidou, Paris; MOT International, London; WIELS, Contemporary Art Center, Bruxelles; Kunsthalle Hamburg; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam gezeigt und sind in zahlreichen Sammlungen vertreten.
Katalin Erdődi, geboren 1980 in Debrecen (Ungarn), ist Kuratorin und Kulturarbeiterin. Sie arbeitet im Bereich zeitgenössischer Kunst und Performance, mit einem besonderen Schwerpunkt auf transdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit, politisch engagierte künstlerische und kuratorische Strategien und Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, welcher im weitesten Sinne als sozialer, architektonischer und diskursiver Raum zu verstehen ist. Zuletzt war Erdödi als künstlerische Leiterin des imagetanz-Festivals und Kuratorin im brut Wien tätig, ab 2018 ist sie Kuratorin des steirischen Herbst. Sie lebt in Wien und Graz.

What Nil Yalter tells in a conversation about the mood of the `68s in Paris, could be a quote from the present. How does art relate to political changes? Which strategies do artists use to engage in the discussion?
These questions accompany Nil Yalter in her artistic career and she will answer them again and again, again and again under different circumstances. The position of women, migration, the living conditions of workers are themes that Nil Yalter uses with a variety of artistic methods, which oscillate between sociological research, ethnography and artistic radical will to experiment.
Even now, we are experiencing a moment of radical political change in Europe. An orientation to role models in history and a discussion about possibilities and scope for action are therefore of great importance.
As a discursive platform for the art projects in the public space Lower Austria since 2009 in the autumn and winter months in the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich under the title "discussion to the art in the public space" events take place on relevant aspects around this area of the visual art. Subjects such as art in construcktion, culture of remembrance, mediation or socio-political action are subjected to a survey by international artists, theoreticians or historians from different perspectives.
The conversation with Nil Yalter is also part of the anniversary "10 Years Performance" in the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich and was curated by Sissi Makovec. As part of its anniversary program, the Kunstraum presents current as well as internationally established positions in feminst performance art, pointing in the past as well as in the future and inviting to an exchange between the generations.
